Bali Eats 07-12

Indo food is amazing - spicy and flavourful and downright delicious! Even more amazing in Bali because all the pork not eaten in every other pocket of the country is found in Bali! Hee hee.

Thanks to all the foreigners who flock and live on the island - the international fare is divine as well.

During our long weekend in Bali, we were able to chow down on:

  • Babi Guling - the local roasted pig Bali is quite famous for
  • Grilled seafood & veggies roasted by our villa chef
  • Naughty Nuris - local resto that does mean ribs
  • Chandi Restaurant - pan-Asian cuisine made from the freshest ingredients. K had a special menu set up for her bday!
  • Breakfast spread, again, cooked up by our villa chef
  • And last but not least... local Mie Goreng! So bad for you, but so damn good!
Oh - and all washed down with lots of alcohol. Everyone brought in a bottle of their favorite tipple from Duty Free... and then some.

Bali 07-12

The go-to vacay spot for us 3rd-culture-kids hailing from JKT is Bali.

Have a reunion? Go to Bali.
Venue for wedding? Do it Bali.
Wanna relax for a few days? Chilax in Bali.

Think Bali is known world-wide for a lot of things: cultural, peaceful, exotic, magical. To be fair - it is all that. But to many of my childhood friends, it's their home away from home.

One of my nearest and dearest friends wanted to celebrate her 30s here. So celebrate in Bali we did!

We didn't beach (sorry Bali - the Philippines can run circles around your beaches!).

Nor did we sight see.

Shopping - just a bit!

Drinking? Yes - there was. Plenty of it.

Partying? Strangely, not much at all.

But delicious chow (of both local and international fare), villa-lounging, spa-ing, good company?  There was definitely lots of that.

Good vibes, ridiculously good time. Definitely a true reflection of the very person we were celebrating for!

AMR Invasion!

Woah, I just realized I HAVEN'T BLOGGED ABOUT MY MOST RECENT VISITORS!!!! Considering I've been wanting these guys to visit the minute I moved here, you would've thunk I'd remember to document this momentous occasion the minute they left!

But anyway yes... so a few days after arriving from Thailand, I cleaned up, stocked up the fridge and turned my loft into a big bedroom in preparation for AMR's arrival.

A&M only stayed for a few days; so in those few days we packed in the itinerary. They wandered about on their own during the weekdays and we would meet up in the evening. I brought them to many of the restaurants places I've been wanting to share with them since I first experienced them, as well as explored some new places together for the first time.

The pace slowed down a little with only R around. She extended for a bit wherein she bummed and explored on her own as well as with friends. She got to do a lot of soul searching and well.. it seems to have serendipitously opened up some doors for her in the process.

It was ridiculously awesome having them come and step into my every day reality. Sooner or later (sooner for some!) though, we'll all get to live in the same reality again and it will be brilliant!

Can't wait!
