what the: nickname

I have one of those names that can shortened / abbreviated, which is actually amusing because I have a really short name to begin with.

My shortened nickname is probably my most common nickname.  I didn't give myself the nickname, nor do I introduce myself using that name. People who call me by this nickname are people whom I've known long enough to be comfortable around them.

Thats why I'm always really thrown off when I meet someone new and they immediately start calling me by my nickname.

May tawag dyan.... :)

what the: Web Surfing Etiquette

With a lot of my friends, it has become a common occurrence to start pulling out the laptops and iphones at one point during a get together and kind of disappear into your own world. We kid around about it too.. welcoming members into the "anti-social" club once they have purchased a new wifi-enabled toy. I do it myself sometimes too - I'll bring out my laptop, maybe quickly check facebook on my phone, etc. It's one of many things people check when we go to a new restaurant or cafe - good food? check! good prices? check! free wifi? CHECK!

Recently, it's been bugging me though, bugging me more than usual. There's something I find very off and almost rude about being in the company of others outside, sitting around a table, and then retreating to your technology. It's like, why bother coming then? Unless of course it's one of those get-togethers where the sole purpose IS to just kind of do your own thing - me and my friends do that a lot too actually.

At the very least, quickly check if you need to and then get back to what's going on at present? Or excuse yourself and tell the people you're with "Hi guys, hope you don't mind, will be anti-social for a bit" or "need to work on something", etc. I suppose it depends on context as well (how many you are, where you are, what you're doing, the people you're with, etc), but it's something I'm going to personally refrain from doing as much as possible.

what the: QUOTATION MARKS

Kind of reminds me of that Friends episode where Joey Tribiani "learns" to use air quotation marks.. then proceeds to misuse them throughout the entire episode.

I'll tell you this much - seeing the constant (mis)use of these quotation marks at the clinic I went to today for a blood test, surely made my wait more tolerable.

what the: WIRES

I can't stand messy wires- computer wiring, telephone cords, etc. Now take your usual mess of wires, magnify it by a gazillion and post it up on a telephone pole for all the world to see.

What an eye sore. Especially irritating for example, when you want to take a picture of the sky. Not like you can reach up and move it aside right?

If we really MUST display our electrical wires this way, could they at least be not so.. messy?! There are little hooks that keep wires regular wires in line right? I wonder if someone could come up with giant industrial versions for these visual distractions? Hmm.. I wonder if you could braid wires? Lol.

what the: Seriously?

On one hand, I'm glad they've indicated how they will actually contribute to their chosen cause. I always wonder about those events that are driven by fund raising for a certain cause. I'd like to assume that anything over and above their operating expenses they would donate. But I'm pretty sure that's just me being overly optimistic. Kinda bugs me that organizations would be exploitative in that regard.

On the other hand though, SERIOUSLY?! 3 pesos?! Assuming they sell 10 jumbo drinks in a day, that's 300 in a month. That's 900 pesos. I know that's better than nothing, and happy that organizations are making an effort to give back, but really?! Come on! They probably spent more money on printing the damn stickers! Again, perhaps exploitative in that regard?

Nyerf.

Random PS. I'm feeling real sorry for Stalone (my laptop.. originally ash/sylivalatorre). Working overtime, overboard in every regard these past two weeks, as I rush to try to get everything done. Must commit him to a full day of rest sometime soon as well.

what the: holy sea creatures

Maybe I've just been spoiled by the masses I regularly attend but seriously, I think mass in the Greenbelt is not only crazy packed but super long. Perhaps more so because of the holidays? Plus each time the response to the responsorial psalm was sung after each verse, it came complete with a full instrumental intro plus the singing of the psalm TWICE per response! I almost strangled myself by the time parish announcements came along, but even THAT was two millions years long. Lol, feeling bratty today are we?!

Anyway, as captivating as Monsignor's homily was, I think I spent a great portion of the hour staring with bewilderment at the Christmas decor that hung from the Greenbelt chapel's inner dome.

Ok, so it's an ugly picture. But even in this fuzzy picture you can kinda sorta see what I mean. They look like atoms, or sea anemones, or holy aliens. Unless they were trying to achieve ugly, whatever they were trying to achieve didn't really didn't work out.

Sorry greenbelt chapel! Time to usher in a new decorator for 2010 perhaps?

what the: CAPS

I don't know the name for this "fad", but I don't like it.

The picture I took obviously doesn't do it justice but the point I think is made. What the heck is up with the caps that just graze the top of the crown? That sit on the head? Some with a slight tilt. Usually seen on people who sport the baggy pants and garish gold "bling".

Every time I see it, I wanna run up to the person and give him/her a good hard PAT on top of his head. Hitting 2 birds with one stone: 1) to push the hat down firmly onto his/her head and 2) a well deserved smack for sporting such audacity ;)

As always, different strokes for different folks. Just not my stroke. Lol.

what the: INDOOR SUNGLASSES

This has been a long time "eh?!" of mine: seeing people wear sunglasses indoors.

I get that maybe some people do it for:

1) Fashion Statement (though.. for me it makes a whole different kind of statement)
2) Not feeling themselves (sore eyes or possibly drugged up :|)
3) Hide from people (though.. doesn't it attract more attention when you wear it indoors? well, I at least you will definitely have my attention)
Either way, doesn't make too much sense to me. But different strokes for different folks I suppose.

what the: URINALS

Do guys really have smaller bladders? I would assume that between the two, girls have smaller bladders. So why are urinals more prevalent on the roads than I dunno.. portapotties? Not that I think any girl I know would want to use a public portapotty unless desperate (then again.. maybe even when desperate, still may opt to hold it in), but it just makes me wonder. And what's up with boy bathrooms smelling more than girl bathrooms?
